Lions Australia Tour 2013

Leicester boss John Wells believes in-form Tigers fly-half Andy Goode deserves to be picked ahead of Jonny Wilkinson for the Lions tour to New Zealand.

Goode produced a commanding display in the 45-15 destruction of Zurich Premiership title rivals Sale, scoring a try and kicking 15 points as well as making a try for Alesana Tuilagi.

Wells said: "There are a lot of quality number 10s around but I believe you should pick on form and Jonny, to be quite honest, has done nothing since kicking a drop goal in the World Cup final against Australia.

"In my book, it would be wrong to pick a guy on promise alone when someone like Andy has been playing so well in the Premiership this season.

"The fact that Andy is the in-form kicking fly-half in the Six Nations ought to stand him in good stead."

Lewis Moody, Leon Lloyd, Martin Johnson and Tom Varndell also touched down for Leicester as the Premiership leaders took control either side of half-time.

Sale wing Mark Cueto replied with a try in each half.
