Australia captain George Gregan has been hit with a one-week ban after being found guilty of a dangerous tackle in the Brumbies’ Super 14 game against the Highlanders on Saturday.

The veteran scrum-half, Test rugby’s most-capped player, was cited for an incident during the 28-26 loss – the Brumbies’ first home defeat in this year’s competition.

A SANZAR judicial committee ruled Gregan’s 44th-minute tackle on Richard Kahui had breached Law 10(4)(a) and, taking into account his previous unblemished disciplinary record, decided on a one-week ban.

Gregan will now miss the crucial final match of the regular season at leaders Crusaders on Friday, from which they need at least two points to guarantee their place in the end-of-season play-offs.
