Injured flanker Schalk Burger is adamant he will overcome his career-threatening neck injury, and intends to play for South Africa for as long as he possibly can.

Burger sustained the injury against Scotland last month, but expects to be back in action next year.

He told Cape Times newspaper: "At the moment I’m doing what normal people do. I’m resting, watching some television.

"I’m content, so maybe a break is a good thing. If I had a lot of unattained goals, it probably would have been hard for me."

The 23-year-old Springbok is also adamant he can get his domestic and international career back on track after his recent injury woes.

"With this kind of injury you realise you’re not immortal," he said. "I won’t rush back for anyone else. But I will play for South Africa again, and for as long as I possibly can.

"I’m not ruling out playing abroad one day, but I’d do it for the cultural experience, not the money."
