Former All Black Carlos Spencer is set to return to playing at fly-half for Northampton Saints after fellow number 10 Stephen Myler was ruled out with a knee injury.

A back-line injury crisis had forced Spencer to move to centre against Overmach Parma in the European Cup on Saturday with Myler taking his place at fly-half.

But the rugby league recruit suffered medial knee ligament damage during the 68-21 victory and will undergo a scan on Wednesday but is expected to be out for between six and 12 weeks.

Myler’s injury is another blow for Northampton who have suffered chronic midfield problems this year, with the likes of Jon Clarke and Bruce Reihana ruled out for long periods.
