Crusaders coach Robbie Deans will leave the Super 14 champions at the end of the season.

The former New Zealand assistant confirmed that he would ‘be seeking new challenges’ after an impressive six-year tenure at Jade Stadium, which resulted in three Super 12 titles and the inaugural Super 14 crown.

However, he clarified that no previous discussions had taken place, and denied meeting Stormers officials over a role with the Cape franchise.

He told The Christchurch Press: "I don’t have anything in concrete, no. I’m a lot more conscious of alternatives if you like, but that’s it."

Deans played down speculation that he is the All Blacks coach-designate.

He added: "There’s nothing certain. Those decisions are made in time, and it’s just not in mind right now. If it became a reality, I’d consider it."

The New Zealand Rugby Union has re-affirmed its intent to keep Deans within New Zealand, although he has been linked with a number of other Super 14 jobs and key northern hemisphere positions.
