South African Rugby Union president Oregan Hoskins and Springbok coach Peter De Villiers put any lingering ill feeling behind them when they met for the first time in Durban on Wednesday.

Hoskins recently said he did not vote for De Villiers, who was appointed to the position two weeks ago, claiming that he was partly appointed for political reasons.

However, the two have now buried the hatchet and Hoskins has pledged to give De Villiers his full support.

"Peter has been tasked with the massive responsibility of coaching the Springboks and it is vital that all of us give him our wholehearted support," Hoskins said.

"He can count on my support and encouragement 100%."
Hoskins also said the elevation of Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer, who lost out to De Villiers for the coaching job, to SA Rugby director of coaching is a distinct possibility.

"I communicated to Meyer’s agent last week that it would be appropriate for me to first meet with Peter, before I go ahead with meeting Heyneke," Hoskins said.

"I also explained this to Peter."

De Villiers was also pleased with the outcome of the meeting.

"We spoke openly and the president was very honest with me," he said.

"I am glad that we had the opportunity to discuss matters regarding the future of rugby in our country."
