Scotland hooker Ross Ford has signed a new three-year contract with Edinburgh.

The 23-year-old was Andy Robinson’s first recruit following the former England head coach’s arrival in October.

Ford arrived from Glasgow Warriors, who he had joined earlier in the year after the closure of Border Reivers.

He has been selected by Scotland coach Frank Hadden for Sunday’s Six Nations opener against France, and believes at Edinburgh he is with a club capable of winning things.

Ford said: "Since I joined the club three months ago everything has worked out brilliantly. I feel I’ve improved as a player and also grown as a character.

"Working with Andy (Robinson) every day has added a lot to my game and that has been shown by the team’s results.

"I think Edinburgh have surprised a few teams so far this season and I genuinely believe we have the potential to challenge for trophies over the next three years.

"Scoring a try in our home win over Leicester in the Heineken Cup was one of the highlights of my career so far and I think the team will get even better in the future."
