White on the mend

Jason White is all set to give Scottish rugby a pre-Six Nations boost by declaring himself fully fit for action by the end of January.

The Sale Sharks flanker badly dislocated a finger in his club’s Boxing Day victory over London Wasps and actually played on for 75 minutes through the pain barrier to help steer his side home.
But the injury required an operation, and the insertion of a pin, and there were fears the 2005 British & Irish Lions replacement might miss yet another Six Nations campaign.
But White has confirmed to the Scottish Rugby website that he is on the mend – “I should be back in full training by 26 January,” he said – and has the Six Nations opener against Wales at Murrayfield on Sunday, 8 February very much in mind.
At his best, White is very much the sort of forward who could do a job for the Lions in South Africa this summer. His power in the tackle is able to upset any team.
