Brumbies Super 14 rugby forward Shawn Mackay has died in a Durban hospital

Mackay, 26, underwent surgery at Durban’s St Augustine’s Hospital last Wednesday, after he sustained injuries when he was run over by a security vehicle as he left a night club.His legs and collarbone were broken and his spine was fractured. 

Last week, Mackay was said to be recovering well from the surgery, but a Brumbies spokesman confirmed on Monday he had died after suffering a cardiac arrest after contracting an infection in his bloodstream/

"It’s devastating news for his family and for all of the Brumbies community. Our thoughts and those of the players are with his family at this most difficult time," said Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan.A former Australian Sevens international
