From Boks to beach

Lions wing Ugo Monye will swap the Boks for the beach this weekend.

The England international was in the thick of the action when he started the first and third Tests against the world champions on the Lions’ recent 10-match tour of South Africa but he will now enjoy a far more relaxing Saturday down in Bournemouth.

Monye is the star attraction at the O2 Scrum on the Beach which takes place at Boscombe Beach from 10am tomorrow.

The Harlequins flyer enjoyed a fabulous 2008/09 season, making his international bow in the November internationals and then winning a brace of Lions caps and scoring the final try of the tour against the Springboks in Johannesburg.

Monye will be joined by England colleague Paul Sackey as he looks to encourage more and more youngsters to take up the sport down on the south coast.

As well as a special beach rugby tournament, visitors to the event will have the opportunity to test their individual skills in the rugby Play Zone, with Monye and Sackey on hand to offer expert advice.
