Second chance for Lion

Former Lions prop Matt Stevens will be given a second chance to make a success of his career thanks to another high-profile Lion.

Ex-Bath and England prop Stevens is currently serving a two-year suspension after admitting cocaine abuse last season.

There had been plenty of talk suggesting that the length of the ban would spell an end to Stevens’ desire to continue playing at the highest level of the game but a Lions legend has other ideas.

Lawrence Dallaglio has publicly stated that London Wasps will have no hesitation offering the 2005 Lions squad member a contract once his ban comes to an end in January 2011.

"We will be happy to offer Matt a job when he completes his ban and Wasps have a reputation for taking in waifs and strays," said the triple Lions tourist who is now on the Board at his former club.

"We are an inclusive club and the game has a moral obligation to look after Matt, who was banned for using a recreational drug not a performance-enhancing one.

"Matt was hung out to dry when this all broke and Bath should have looked after him.”
