Lions lead Wales to win

A trio of Lions stars grabbed the headlines as Wales ended their Six Nations campaign with a comfortable win.

James Hook and Shane Williams were the try scorers in the 33-10 victory over Italy, with Hook claiming a brace and Williams taking his personal Welsh tally to 51 in 73 games.

Fellow Lion Stephen Jones was one of the game’s outstanding performers, adding 18 points in an faultless kicking display.

Wales led just 12-3 at half-time but Hook crossed twice in quick succession early in the second period, with Williams adding a third try before the Italians claimed a late consolation.

Saturday’s win has eased external pressure on Wales and Lions coach Warren Gatland who had himself been criticized after his side failed to come close to matching their Grand Slam winning form of his first season in charge back in 2008.

A total of 12 Lions were on display in Cardiff, with Lee Byrne, Jamie Roberts, Mike Phillips, Gethin Jenkins, Matthew Rees, Adam Jones and Ryan Jones all starting the final-round encounter and Tom Shanklin and Dwayne Peel coming on as replacements.
