France put to sowrd by Pumas

Former Leinster outside half Felipe Contepomi scored 31 points as the Pumas put Grand Slam champions France to the sword in Buenos Aires in a victory that put Scotland’s series win in Argentina into even better perspective.

Ali Kellock’s Scottish tourists notched their first away series victory with two successive victories over the Pumas earlier in the month and the home side’s demolition job of the French by four tries to one proved just how good the Scots were.

It was a miserable end to the season for Thierry Dusatoir’s men, who were soundly beaten in South Africa in their other summer Test, and they were 19-6 adrift at the break. The second half turned into an even bigger nightmare as they conceded 22 points.

Julien Malzieu at least grabbed a consolation try in the second half, but it is back to the drawing board for France after losing for the seventh time in their last nine meetings with Argentina.

As for Contpomi, it was a return to his peak form as he scored two of his sides’ four tries, added three conversions and five penalties.
