Sarries still off to SA

Saracens still plan to head to South Africa next month despite the cancellation of their Heineken Cup fixture in Cape Town.

Sarries had been due to take on French giants Biarritz in the city but a row over which stadium would host the game meant they decided to bring the fixture back to Watford.

The English Champions had initially agreed to play the landmark fixture – the first Heineken Cup game to be played in the southern hemisphere – at Cape Town Stadium on January 14 but Western Province Rugby Union (WPRU) insisted that the match must be played at Newlands instead.

But while that particular fixture is now scheduled for Vicarage Road, Saracens will still be sending a team to Cape Town having already purchased flight tickets.

Sarries will hold a training camp in the city and play a second team fixture against Stellenbosch University.

"Saracens have bought their flight tickets and will therefore come and practice in the Cape," said Stellenbosch coach Chean Roux.

"Fifteen other players will also come along, who will play as the Storm (Saracens A) against us, although it's not an official match and we will provide the replacements."
