O’Driscoll praised for his attention to detail

Brian O’Driscoll’s meticulous attention to detail is what stands him out from the crowd, according to Leinster head coach Matt O’Connor.

Centre O’Driscoll, who won his first British & Irish Lions series at the fourth time of asking this summer, impressed last weekend in his first outing for Leinster this season.

He has confirmed that this will be his last season but he still hopes to add to his collection of silverware with both Leinster and Ireland.

And O’Connor believes it is his preparation that allows him to break record after record.

“Brian’s a guy that could play ten, 12, 14 games back to back, given a good injury run, because mentally he’s so good,” O’Connor told the Irish Examiner.

“As you get on in years you are a bit more fragile in certain areas and you have to take consideration of that, but all things being equal he is at the top of his game.

“His experience is second to none and something everyone feeds off, it intimidates the opposition and gives our guys so much.

“He’s meticulous in his detail and the way he approaches the game. He leaves no stone unturned in relation to his preparation and when you’ve got a guy like that you know that he’s good for a reason.

“It’s not a fluke, it’s not luck that he’s good every time he plays. He puts the effort into his game to make sure he’s as good as he is.”
