Full-back Hogg returns to action

British & Irish Lions full-back Stuart Hogg will make his long-awaited return to action on Friday night – and teammate Rob Harley has backed him to put on a show.

Hogg was the youngest member of Warren Gatland’s squad this summer and he featured in tour matches against the Combined Country XV and the Brumbies.

However, the 21-year-old was omitted from each of the test match squads and since returning to the northern hemisphere he has only played a handful of matches.

After sustaining a wrist injury against Leinster, the Glasgow Warriors full-back was forced to miss six weeks of action but he will make his return against Newport Gwent Dragons tonight.

Harley, who plays with Hogg for Glasgow and Scotland, is expecting the youngster to return with a bang and show the form that earned him a spot on the plane to Australia.

“Hoggy has been champing at the bit to get back into the side and he has been flying at training this week” Harley told the Glasgow Evening Times.

“He has a lot of frustration in him that he is desperate to take out on the Dragons and, hopefully, he can bring that all into play.”

And Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend is excited to be able to name Hogg in his team, despite the ongoing autumn internationals.

“After a two-week break we're all really looking forward to getting back to playing rugby again,” he said.

“We're delighted to welcome Stuart Hogg back from injury, especially with a number of players away on international duty.”
