George North could be used in the centres for Wales against France this weekend and fellow British & Irish Lion Shane Williams is interested to see how the experiment unfolds.

North was used to devastating effect on the wing for the Lions in Australia this summer as the tourists claimed their first series win in 16 years.

But with fellow Lion Jonathan Davies still returning from injury and Scott Williams now ruled out there is a chance that North will wear 13 on his back against France on Friday night.

But Williams, a Lions tourist in 2005, 2009 and injury cover last year, is not confident that now is the time for North to make his midfield debut.

“Physically George is a perfect outside centre,” he said. “But in saying that, is it something we have to do right now and in this tournament – and is that the answer to winning these games?

“I'm not sure. I enjoy watching George playing on the wing and looking for work.

“He certainly hasn't been used enough in the centre position coming off his wing and that's a shame really because we know that when you get players like Alex Cuthbert and George North working hard off their wing, they are very dangerous.

“Would I put him to centre at the moment? Perhaps with the injury crisis at the moment we have to and that's sometimes how it goes and that's sometimes how player's positions are selected.

“Injury permitting we are probably going to have to see George North playing 13.”
