Kearney admits extra spice added to Saturday’s clash

British & Irish Lions full-back Rob Kearney is relishing this weekend’s inter-provincial clash between Leinster and Munster this weekend.

And Kearney, who went on his second Lions tour last summer, believes Ireland’s recent success will add further spice to the crunch clash.

Formerly coach of the province, Joe Schmidt picked a number of Leinster players in Ireland’s recent matches but was quick to laugh off any suggestions of favouritism.

Some in the Munster corner may tend to disagree however and Kearney believes those gripes will add to his side’s motivation ahead of the showdown at the Aviva Stadium.

"I think if you don't use something like that to fire you up and use it to your advantage, there is something a little bit wrong with you," Kearney, who played in all three Lions Tests in 2009, told the Irish Independent.

“I have no doubt they will use that. There's no doubt that we've things to prove as well, that there was such a strong Leinster contingent there. We have to show why. It is a double-edged sword."
