South Africa the fresh target for North

British & Irish Lion George North has two trophies to boast about after a dream debut season with Northampton Saints – now he has glory for Wales in South Africa in his sights.

This time last year the wing wizard was in Australia preparing to star in a successful Tour for the Lions, and his star has shone just as bright since then.

Victory with Saints against Saracens at Twickenham on Saturday followed a European title at the expense of Bath and as the international window opens again, North intends to keep the momentum rolling.

Wales’ 2014 has not gone according to plan so far with defeats to England and Ireland, but 22-year-old North insists his nation can put things right in their two-test Tour of the Springboks starting June 14.

“There was talk they were going to rest some boys but you can’t go to South Africa with semi-skimmed milk,” North told the Daily Mail.

“We have to throw everything at them. People won’t expect much of us but no-one expected much of us going to the last World Cup and we came out strong.

“We’ve still got a hell of a squad. We’re taking as much firepower as possible.”
