Corbisiero raring to go again after injury-hit campaign

British & Irish Lions prop Alex Corbisiero admits he can’t wait for the new campaign to get underway after the fixtures for the English domestic season were announced.

Corbisiero made five appearances for the Lions on last summer’s tour of Australia and scored the first try in the decisive third Test, but his first season at Northampton Saints was disrupted by injury.

The 25-year-old made just seven league appearances for the English champions after suffering knee ligament damge on England duty in November which kept him on the sidelines until May.

And after returning to play a part in the final and missing England’s trip to New Zealand, where the Lions tour in 2017, Corbisiero is looking forward to being back on the pitch when Northampton kick their season off against Gloucester.

"It was awesome to win the Premiership, after coming back from injury fresh and on a high,” he said. “I've had a bit of time off to feel rested and ready to go.

"I feel good, I was getting back to playing a handful of games at the end of the season and I'm pretty happy with where I am right now.

"(Gloucester) is massively exciting, us against their set piece is always going to be a challenge and you always want to take teams on.

"I am sure they will come with the mentality of wanting to prove something but we back ourselves at home in front of Franklin's Gardens, that's where you want to be."
