British & Irish Lion Stuart Hogg admits it’s been a difficult season but the full-back has his eyes on a Commonwealth Games medal to help ease the pain.
Hogg spent last summer with the Lions in Australia but failed to take to the field in any of the three Tests, and he claims he struggled to find form.
But the 22-year-old has been selected for Scotland Sevens which will compete on home soil in Glasgow later this month.
And Hogg, who was selected in place of the injured Tommy Seymour, says it could bring happier memories.
“Johnno (Scott Johnson) had a wee chat with me on the last week on tour as Tommy was struggling with his neck and he asked me if I wanted to play,” Hogg told the Scotsman.
“I bit his hand off when I got the chance. I wanted to play. I’d hardly played any rugby since the RBS 6 Nations and this was a chance to put on another Scotland jersey.
“It’s my first experience of sevens and I’m proud of that. It will be tough, but I’ve learned a lot and I have the right players and coaching staff to help me around.
“I’ve not had a great season performance-wise. I had form only for a month or two, so it’s been a difficult season. This is a chance to end it on a high – it’s a positive, exciting thing for me at the end of the season.”
