Davies tipped to make big impression in France

British & Irish Lion Jonathan Davies has all the tools to flourish at Clermont Auvergne according to former Scarlets teammate Regan King, who has returned to Wales after his own stint at the French club.

Davies, who endured an injury-hit season at Scarlets last year after playing a major role in the Lions’ success Down Under, has taken up a fresh challenge at Clermont.

He will join the likes of fellow Lions Johnny Sexton, Mike Phillips and Leigh Halfpenny – who made the switch to European champions Toulon over the summer – in France.

And King, who played alongside Davies in the centres for four years at Scarlets, has tipped him to make a huge impact across the channel.

"He’s world class, he’ll fit there like a glove,” King told Wales Online. “He’s got world class players around him in (Aurelien) Rougerie, (Wesley) Fofana and Benson Stanley. Brock James will ease him in, he’s the translator for the new boys that come in.

“Jon will suit the way Clermont play, with their very physical and direct game.

“That’s Jon’s game, he’s so physical and so powerful, it will suit him down to a tee. The fans are really looking forward to having him down there.”
