Carter set to be unleashed on Scotland

Iconic fly-half Dan Carter is set to step up his recovery from a broken leg with a run out at BT Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday, according to New Zealand assistant coach Ian Foster.

Carter, 32, has featured just once for the All Blacks in the last 12 months due to injury and a self-imposed six-month sabbatical, playing the final half an hour in the tour victory over USA earlier this month.

He missed the first of the autumn internationals last Saturday when New Zealand, set to host the next British & Irish Lions tour in 2017, beat England 24-21 at Twickenham.

Carter, the all-time highest scorer in Test rugby, has amassed 53 of his record 1,448 points in matches against Scotland and is set to take on the familiar foe for a fifth time this weekend.

“We are keen for Dan to get significant game time on this tour,” Foster told Fairfax Media NZ.

“Whether he’s starting or comes off the bench, he’s likely to be there in some form.”
