British & Irish Lions lock Paul O’Connell enjoyed his try-scoring display as Ireland beat Scotland at BT Murrayfield on Saturday.

The 35-year-old, who won his 100th cap for the men in green the previous weekend against Wales, piled over early on in Edinburgh as Ireland completed a dominant 40-10 triumph.

O’Connell – who has featured in each of the last three Lions tours – had just six Test tries to his name at the start of the day and while victory was of the utmost importance, crossing the whitewash made the afternoon all the more enjoyable.

“It was great, I don’t score that often,” he said. “I actually scored here before about seven or eight years ago so to get over was great.

“It is fantastic – there was a lot of pressure. We knew we did a lot of good things last week against Wales and a few poor things.

“We probably did a few of them again at the start of this game but we knew we were in a good place at the end of that game and we knew that we could continue that form this week.

“And we did at times, probably not for 80 minutes, but at times we played some good rugby.”
