Warburton: World Cup momentum is with Wales

British & Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton insists Wales can head into the World Cup with confidence after winning their last four games.

British & Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton insists Wales can head into the World Cup with confidence after winning their last four games.

Warburton, who led the Lions to a successful 2013 Tour victory over Australia, has played his part in turning Wales’ fortunes around in recent weeks.

The 26-year-old was on the scoresheet last time out in their impressive 61-20 victory over Italy.

And, after suffering an agonising 21-16 defeat to England as recently as February, Warburton says momentum has now shifted in his side’s favour.

“We are in a good place now breaking up before coming back together and winning your last four games gives you momentum,” Warburton told Wales Online.

“The confidence we will take from that to take forward into future campaigns will be extremely high.”

Wales will face Australia, England, Fiji and Uruguay in the World Cup and Warburton admits it is difficult to predict how the games will pan out.

“People ask me about how we will go at the World Cup but it’s tough to think that far ahead,” he added.

“We have five or six weeks with our region, then we have some holidays before we come back together for all those training camps.

“I can’t think past them, if selected, because they are brutal. There is quite a lot ahead which I have to try and get my head around.”
