Davies hungry for European glory

British & Irish Lions centre Jonathan Davies is targeting European glory with Clermont Auvergne as they prepare to take on Saracens on Saturday.

Davies is in his first full season at the French side after playing in all three Tests during the successful 2013 Lions tour of Australia.

The semi-final clash takes place at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in St Etienne in front of 40,000 fans, most backing Davies and his teammates, and the 27-year-old is relishing the pressure put on the team to perform.

“It’s my first year at Clermont, but you quickly realise the importance of winning the European Cup,” Davies told Wales Online.

“It is a very proud club and there are certainly high expectations given the quality of the team we have.

“It’s nice to have the burden of needing to deliver – it gives us an edge and an intensity. We all understand what we want to achieve and we have executed well in our games so far.

“It’s all about being involved in the big games at the business end of the season. I’m just so excited about being a part of such a strong team going into a European semi-final.

“You start out on a big journey at the start of the season in two major competitions and they are your bread and butter. To be a part of a winning European Cup squad would be brilliant.”
