Dallaglio: Disappointed Wade still has bright future

British & Irish Lion Christian Wade may have missed out on a place in England’s World Cup training camp but Lawrence Dallaglio is convinced the winger will use that disappointment as fuel for improvement.

Wade, who was part of the successful Lions tour to Australia in 2013, was not named in England head coach Stuart Lancaster’s 50-man squad earlier this week despite his impressive form for club side Wasps.

The 24-year-old used his blistering pace to notch 14 tries in 23 games for Wasps this term as they made waves at both domestic and European level.

And despite not being in Lancaster’s immediate plans, Dallaglio, a three-time Lion himself, believes the speedster’s future is still bright.

“Christian Wade will be disappointed. He’s one of the most exciting players in world rugby, let alone English rugby,” Dallaglio told Planet Rugby.

“He can do things that very few players can and at some point, he’ll be picked by someone for what he can do rather than what he can’t do.

“He’ll use it in a constructive way and he’s an England player of the future, from Stuart Lancaster’s view it’s just not the immediate future.

“Evidently his size and defence are concerns, but you could equally say the glass is half-full and that he does things that no other players can do.

“We have all seen him score tries where you question if anyone else could do that.”
