Savea and Retallick commit futures to All Blacks

NZR Chief Executive Steve Tew is delighted that All Blacks Julian Savea and Brodie Retallick have signed new long-term contracts meaning they will be available to take on the British and Irish Lions in 2017.

Retallick, the reigning IRB world player of the year, and Kiwi winger Savea are the first All Blacks to commit through to 2019.

Hurricanes wing Savea and Chiefs lock Retallick have signed new four-year contracts with New Zealand Rugby and their Super Rugby franchises.

And Tew insists the both players will have massive roles to play in bringing future success to the All Blacks.

“Brodie and Julian represent a big part of the future for us and we are delighted to have them sign for four more years,” he said.

“We know our players have choices, so to have them commit long term to New Zealand is very pleasing, and I want to thank them both for their commitment to New Zealand.

“It’s an exciting period for rugby in this country and they will now be part of some very important events, including the revamped Super Rugby competition from next year, the British and Irish Lions Tour in 2017 and Rugby World Cup 2019.”
