Strong Lions contingent selected in England’s Six Nations squad

Eddie Jones has picked a host of British & Irish Lions in his 34-man England squad for the upcoming Six Nations.

Saracens players Owen Farrell, Elliot Daly, Maro Itoje, Jamie George, Mako Vunipola and George Kruis will form an important part of Jones’ squad as England look to win the Championship for the first time since 2017.

They are joined by fellow Lions Jonathan Joseph, Anthony Watson, Manu Tuilagi, Courtney Lawes, Joe Marler, Kyle Sinckler and Ben Youngs in being selected.

Dan Cole, who has three Lions caps to his name, is one of the high-profile omissions from Jones’ squad which also features two apprentice players.

Jack Nowell – a member of the Lions squad which toured New Zealand in 2017 – has also been left out after it was revealed he will need to undergo ankle surgery.

Billy Vunipola is also a casualty after he suffered a broken arm in Saracens’ Champions Cup defeat of Racing 92 on Sunday.

Jones has opted against calling up a specialist No.8 replacement for Vunipola who was selected but forced to withdraw from Lions duty due to injury in 2017.
