Ben Clarke holds the unusual honour of being the first one million pound rugby player – following his move from Bath Rugby to Richmond in 1996.

The powerful back row forward made 40 appearances for England during an illustrious seven-year international career and was also selected to tour with The British & Irish Lions in 1993 to New Zealand.

Clarke was a star of the Tour and featured for the Lions in all three test matches against New Zealand.

He started his club career at Bath in 1992, before playing for Richmond and also Worcester.

Following his retirement from the game, Clarke worked in the financial sector alongside fellow 1993 Lions tourist Peter Winterbottom.
