David Egerton’s taste of Lions action came in Paris in 1989, when he started at No.8 for the one-off game against France, organised as part of the celebrations surrounding the bicentennial of the French revolution.
Pinner-born Egerton helped the Lions, captained by Rob Andrew, to a narrow 29-27 triumph at the Parc des Princes as Gavin Hastings crossed for two tries and booted a further four penalties.
Having attended Loughborough University, Egerton was a key cog in the successful Bath team of the 1980s and 1990s and earned seven England caps during his career – the last of which came against Argentina in 1990.
