Jonathan Davies left New Zealand after a stunning 2017 Tour as the third Welshman in a row to be named The British & Irish Lions Player of the Series.
Following on from Jamie Roberts in 2009 and Leigh Halfpenny in 2013, the centre played every minute of the three Tests against the All Blacks, producing outstanding displays both in defence and attack, as the Lions secured an historic 1-1 series draw.
Davies was an integral part of Head Coach Warren Gatland’s plans for two successive Series – having also started all three Tests in Australia in 2013, and playing the full 80 minutes in all six Tests over the two Tours.
There were many memorable moments from Davies in New Zealand, including his key part in Sean O’Brien’s try in the first Test that will go down in history as one of the great Lions scores.
His fantastic chase down of Ngani Laumape in the third and final Test was also crucial, as was a thumping hit on Jordie Barrett to help secure a 15-15 draw and a share of the spoils in the series.
Davies made his Welsh debut against Canada in June 2009 and played in all seven games at Rugby World Cup 2011 before missing out on the 2015 edition due to injury.
He played in Wales’ 2012 Six Nations Grand Slam success as well as starting all five games of their 2013 Championship winning season which propelled him onto his first Lions Tour later that year.
In Australia the Welsh centre was paired with Brian O'Driscoll for the first two Tests against the Wallabies and then was reunited with his fellow Welshman Roberts for the final Test in Sydney.
He scored three tries on the 2013 Tour crossing the whitewash against the Barbarians, Combined NSW-QLD Country and Super Rugby outfit the New South Wales Waratahs.
Davies started his professional career with the Scarlets but moved to Clermont Auvergne in the French Top14 following the 2013 Lions Tour before re-joining Scarlets at the start of the 2016/17 season.
He went on to play an intergral role for Gatland again in Wales' 2019 Six Nations triumph.
