Andrew Porter will be looking to make up for lost time after missing out on the 2021 Tour to South Africa with a toe injury he picked up while playing for Leinster just a week before the squad were due to meet up.
The Dubliner has since put that disappointment behind him and has gone on to play an integral role in Ireland’s front row as a prop under Andy Farrell – the current Lions Head Coach on secondment from Ireland.
He has won two Guinness Six Nations Grand Slams – in 2018 and 2023 – and been part of three Six Nations triumphs in total. He has also helped his national side reach the summit of the world rankings on multiple occasions.
The 29-year-old has spent his entire club-career with Leinster, for whom he made his debut against Benetton Treviso in 2016. He won four consecutive league titles between 2018 and 2021 and came off the bench during the 2018 European Champions Cup final as Leinster beat Racing 92 15-12 in Bilbao.
Speaking during the Six Nations earlier in the year, Porter admitted he had been thinking about a Lions place.
He said: “I would be lying if I said I was not thinking about it, or that it was not in the back of my mind, but I am not letting it distract me.”
Having now been selected, Porter can think about his place in the squad all he wants as he looks to make an impact.
