Huw Jones will head to Australia this summer for his first British & Irish Lions Tour after a well-travelled career.

Born in Leith in Edinburgh, he then went to school in England before heading to South Africa for four years.

It was while he was still living in South Africa that he got a first Scotland call-up, making his debut under Vern Cotter on the 2016 tour of Japan.

He scored his first two tries for Scotland later that year in a clash with Australia and has established himself as a prolific try-scorer for his country.

Jones moved back to Scotland in 2017, joining Glasgow Warriors, and quickly cemented a position in the Scottish midfield.

He scored three tries in the 2018 Six Nations, including two in the win over England, as Scotland finished third, equalling their best finish in the Six Nations era.

Injuries then stalled his career, being ruled out of the end of the 2019 Six Nations before missing out on the World Cup later that year.

Jones spent a season at Harlequins, where he demonstrated his versatility with regular appearances at full-back, before returning to Glasgow in 2022.

He was recalled for the 2023 Six Nations, scoring four tries including one against England in a second successive victory at Twickenham.

Jones was selected for his first World Cup later that year and then scored a try for Glasgow Warriors as they won the United Rugby Championship final away to the Bulls in South Africa.

The 2024/25 season has been equally impressive, with a hat-trick in Scotland’s opening win over Italy, along with another try against England taking his international tally to 23, just one away from the top five try-scorers in Scottish history.

Those performances have been rewarded for a first call-up to the Lions, where he will hope to show just what he can do in the red of the Lions.
