The multi-talented James Lowe will head on his first Lions Tour in 2025 having established himself as one of the world’s top wingers.

During his youth, Lowe flourished in athletics and turned out for New Zealand's Under-15s in basketball.

But when push came to shove, it was within rugby union that Lowe would make a name for himself. He excelled for provincial side Tasman before a move to Super Rugby side the Chiefs.

He moved to Leinster in 2017 and quickly became integral to the province’s fortunes.

Blending supreme offloading skill with pace and power and a huge left boot, Lowe has racked up a host of honours with the Dublin side including four league titles and a Champions Cup crown.

After completing the three-year residency period in November 2020, he was named in Ireland’s squad for the Autumn Nations Cup and scored on his debut against Wales.

In 2021, Lowe scored the opening try during his side's first win on home soil against New Zealand and he featured in Ireland's historic successful tour against the All Blacks the following year.

More silverware followed as Lowe played a key role in his side’s Six Nations Grand Slam in 2023, scoring three tries and being named in the Team of the Tournament.

A statement win over South Africa during the World Cup pool stage later the same year proved to be another feather in Lowe's cap, as he showcased his defensive prowess by hoisting the giant Eben Etzebeth off the Stade de France pitch.

Though Ireland would ultimately exit to New Zealand in the quarter-final, that only added fuel to the fire, with Lowe starring as his side successfully defended their Guinness Six Nations Championship crown the following year and earning his second selection to the Team of the Tournament.

Having previously faced off against the Lions with the Māori All Blacks in 2017, this summer sees Lowe line up in red for the Tour of Australia.
