Jamison Gibson-Park was a 13-year-old kid on a couch in New Zealand when he fell in love with The British & Irish Lions.
And after moving to Ireland nine years ago, he will now head to Australia with the Lions as a leading contender for the No.9 jersey, which he has made his own for Leinster and Ireland.
From his early days in New Zealand at Taranaki, Gibson-Park has always liked to play the game with tempo, and he quickly got his chance at Super Rugby level with the Blues before later moving to the Hurricanes.
Everything changed for him in 2016 however, when he headed north to join Leinster.
He faced plenty of competition at provincial level, but established himself as first choice for Leo Cullen’s side, before becoming eligible to play for Ireland in 2019.
British & Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell gave him a first Ireland cap in 2020 and Gibson-Park has not looked back, earning the starting No.9 jersey to succeed three-time Lions tourist Conor Murray.
With Gibson-Park pulling the strings alongside Johnny Sexton, Ireland claimed a Grand Slam in 2023, a year on from an historic series victory over the All Blacks in New Zealand.
While they ultimately fell short at the quarter-final stage against New Zealand at the 2023 World Cup, Gibson-Park picked up where he had left off in 2024, helping Ireland to back-to-back titles.
That was enough to earn him a spot in World Rugby’s Dream Team of the Year before he kicked off 2025 with a Player of the Match performance in Ireland’s opening Six Nations victory over England.
Gibson-Park has started each of the past three Investec Champions finals, playing 253 of a possible 260 minutes of those encounters.
