Like his teammate Martin Tweed, Whalley Stranack played his rugby for Guy’s Hospital and like his teammate, he had no previous international experience when he was called up to represent the Lions team for the trip to Argentina in 1910.
The two forwards both impressed in the initial four games to earn a starting place in the sole international against Argentina in Buenos Aires, from which the tourists emerged victorious 28-3.
The Tour was rounded off with an emphatic 41-10 win over Argentinos Nativos with Stranack – who also played rugby for Kent – returning to British shores unbeaten.
