Video: Lions score penalty try after strong maul

The Lions extended their lead just before the hour when they were awarded a penalty try following a powerful maul in the Chiefs 22.

Leading 13-6 at the break, the Lions had enjoyed much of the possession in the second half but came up against a stubborn Chiefs defence.

The pressure eventually told just before the hour however as they turned to their maul. A first attempt had ended with Rory Best driving down the blindside, and while he was stopped, the Lions were able to get another lineout.

On this occasion they were not to be denied, and when the Chiefs came in from the side to sack the maul, referee Jerome Garces had no hesitation in going under the posts to award the penalty try.

The Chiefs also lost flanker Mitchell Brown to the sin-bin, and by the time he returned, the Lions had cut loose with two further converted tries to claim a 34-6 victory.
