Wade wants to build on his sole Lions and England starts

Wing Christian Wade has expressed his determination to go from one-cap England and British & Irish Lions wonder to a fully fledged international regular.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a summer to remember as he made his full England debut in Argentina before travelling to Australia to join up with the Lions.

Wade was due to make a second successive England appearance before being called up by Lions coach Warren Gatland as concerns grew over the fitness of George North.

He made a solitary start in Australia, featuring in the 14-12 defeat to the Brumbies, before watching the Lions make history with a 2-1 Test series win.

And, with the autumn internationals looming large and England scheduled to play Australia, Argentina and New Zealand at Twickenham, Wade wants regular run outs.

“My goal is to establish myself now. I’d like to try to cement a place in the team. Myself, Chris Ashton and the other wingers just need to play our games,” said Wade.

“Whoever is on form will be picked by the England coaches. There will be a weight of expectation on my shoulders.”
