Injured Faletau ruled out of World Cup

The 28-year-old, who toured Australia in 2013 and New Zealand two years ago, suffered the injury in training and requires surgery, with no timeframe put on his return.

It is the latest frustration for the No.8, who has not played Test rugby since March 2018. A broken arm ruined his campaign last season and forced him to miss Wales’ Six Nations Grand Slam.

A statement by the Welsh Rugby Union said: “The injury was sustained in an innocuous training ground incident and will require surgery.

“A prognosis and return to play timeframe will be established after surgery.

“The Wales squad and management would like to wish Taulupe the very best with his recovery.”

Wales face Australia, Georgia, Fiji and Uruguay in Pool D.
