Lions Australia Tour 2013

Dwayne Peel admits it was a ‘privilege’ to be picked for the British & Irish Lions squad – and now he cannot wait for the tour of New Zealand to begin.

The 23-year-old Llanelli Scarlets scrum-half staked his claim for a berth in the Test side with a starring role in Wales’ 2005 Six Nations triumph and was thrilled when he heard the news of his selection.

"It was a great feeling when I saw the squad, fantastic," he said, recalling the moment he watched live coverage of Lions boss Sir Clive Woodward’s announcement, in company with his Llanelli team-mates after training at Stradey Park.

"It is just a privilege to be selected in the squad, and it’s great for Welsh rugby that there are two scrum-halves going in myself and ‘Coops’ (Gareth Cooper).

"It is something I have always dreamed of being a part of, and it is just a great feeling now that I have been picked.

"It’s going to be a phenomenal experience, and I am very much looking forward to the tour.

"You start out (in your career) just wanting to play for Llanelli, and then Wales, but to be associated with the Lions is something else."
