Roberts heartbroken after Racing Metro defeat

British & Irish Lion Jamie Roberts says defeat with the last kick of the match was heartbreaking as his Racing Metro side were downed by Saracens.

There was little to separate the two sides, with the English outfit holding a 6-5 lead at the interval thanks to two Charlie Hodgson penalties.

Alex Goode added another three-pointer but Maxime Machenaud added two penalties to his first-half try to move the French side ahead.

But Marcelo Bosch’s penalty late on meant Roberts, who featured for the Lions in 2009 and 2013, was left devastated.

“It’s heartbreaking to lose a game of that magnitude with the last kick – it is thoroughly disappointing,” he said.

“I thought in the second half we wrestled our way back into it – it was a bit of a game of chess actually, a bit of an arm wrestle.

“I thought we had them after Max [Maxime Machenaud] put that kick over – he played exceptionally well.

“The boys are devastated, it’s a difficult one to take but we give credit to Marcelo Bosch for putting that kick over at the end – it was a difficult kick.”
