Halfpenny still feeling fresh after stellar year

It is nearing the end of a hectic year for British & Irish Lion Leigh Halfpenny, but the full-back insists he is ready to go full tilt for club and country in 2014.

The 24-year-old bagged an extraordinary 114 points on Tour in Australia over the summer – including 13 penalties in three Tests against the Qantas Wallabies.

And after autumn internationals with Wales in November and now Heineken Cup action with Cardiff Blues, Halfpenny has every right to want a breather – but he is adamant he is in no need of a rest.

“It’s part of being a professional rugby player,” he said.

“It’s your job and for me there’s nothing better than to come off an international campaign and going straight into the Heineken Cup where the intensity is incredibly high and so is the standard.

“We’re back in training which is part of your job to get back into the calls and up to speed with things, and I’m thoroughly enjoying being back playing for the Blues.”
