Scotland’s Alan Tomes' sole Lions try came against the SA Barbarians on the 1980 Tour to South Africa.
It was Tomes’ sixth appearance on the tour, he made seven in total, but he was unable to force his way into the Test team as Lions lost the four-match series 3-1.
The second row had made his international debut four years previously in a 22-12 success over England.
He went on to pick up 48 caps for Scotland during an eight-year international career and scored three tries.
Tomes also played for the Barbarians in a fixture against Melrose in 1976 in the second of the Border club’s centenary games.
