Centre Allan Bateman made seven appearances during the successful 1997 Lions tour of South Africa.
He formed an imrpessive centre pairing with Will Greenwood for the mid-week side and got his chance in the Test squad in the third and final clash against the Springboks when he came off the bench at half time to replace Jeremy Guscott.
A dual-code international, Bateman made two league appearances for Great Britain and was capped 35 times by Wales.
He played club rugby in Wales, England and Australia and helped Northampton Saints win the Heineken Cup in 2000.
He became known as ‘The Clamp’ in his rugby league days because of the ferocity of his tackling.
