A remarkable player for both Wales and The British & Irish Lions, Alun Pask was capped 26 times by his country but made an astonishing 36 appearances in the Lions red.

Pask captained Wales on seven occasions and led them to a Five Nations Championship victory in 1966.

Tall and lean with good hands, he had an uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time in defence.

A two-time Lions tourist, Pask played three Tests against South Africa on the 1962 Tour, twice against Australia in 1966 and three times against the All Blacks that same year.

The Abertillery player also demonstrated his versatility in 1965, famously deputising as a full-back for Wales against Ireland with both sides going for the Triple Crown.

Wales lost their centre John Dawes to injury, and in the days before replacements were allowed Pask moved to the position for 20 minutes (after full-back Terry Price filled Dawes’ roles in the midfield), where he delivered a performance that would have done justice to a top-class No 15.
