Wales centre Alun Thomas toured South Africa as a Lion in 1955 but his trip was hindered by injury.
In total he made five appearances – kicking 15 points across those Tour matches against Western Transvaal, Griqualand West, Natal, Junior Springboks and Border.
Thomas did not break into the Test side that secured a 2-2 series draw with the Springboks. But the Welshman returned to the Republic in 1974 as Tour manager of the famous ‘Invincibles’ who went unbeaten against all opposition including the Test series win over the Boks.
