Angus Stuart is one of those rare British & Irish Lions players who may have been picked as one of the best of the region, but was never selected to represent his country.
The Scotsman played club rugby for Cardiff, where he spent three seasons, and Dewsbury, where he openly admitted he moved to for financial reasons.
Stuart was selected for the inaugural 1888 Lions Tour to Australia and New Zealand, where he played 23 games and scored one try.
It was while on Tour that he made the permanent switch from a back to a forward.
After the Tour, he decided to stay in New Zealand and even toured with the national team to Australia – although he did not win a Test cap.
