Arthur O’Brien, like fellow tourist Patrick McEvedy, was a medicine student at Guy’s Hospital ahead of the 1904 Lions Tour.
He was born in Westport, New Zealand and also doubled as tour manager as the Lions took on Australia and New Zealand.
O’Brien featured in all four Test matches and became the first overseas player to score for the Lions with a conversion in both the Tests in Sydney and a try in Brisbane.
The full-back never played an international match for England having returned home to New Zealand as a doctor at the end of the Tour.
