The multi-talented Arthur Paul was an all-round sportsman, playing rugby during the winter and first-class cricket during the summer.
Cricket was a theme on the 1888 Tour, with coaches Arthur Shrewsbury and Alfred Shaw both former first-class cricketers.
Paul played for Lancashire in cricket and Swinton in rugby, although he did not play international rugby for England or Ireland.
Shaw and Shrewsbury picked the Belfast-born full-back for the inaugural Lions Tour to Australia and New Zealand, where he made 29 appearances for the tourists.
